Claire Danes is anxious about attending the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The Homeland star is nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series, a prize she also took home last year.

Either way the vote goes, the actress is terrified by the outcome.

"If you lose, you have to cope with that sting, and if you win, you have to get up and say something eloquent and charming, and remember to thank your husband or your wife,” she told America’s People magazine.

If she does take home the Emmy, Claire’s only hopes she doesn’t forget to mention husband Hugh Dancy.

She’s convinced if she were to stumble in her speech she might lapse on her significant other’s name during the nerve-wracking moment.

“It's always the vital person you forget to thank. It's terrifying. And then you see the clock ticking. It's awful, that particular part of it,” the actress explained.

There are moments to look forward to, however.

Claire said “the actual ceremony and the celebrations and seeing everyone in their beautiful clothes is actually really great”.

The cast and crew of Homeland received three major nominations, including best drama and outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Claire’s co-star Damian Lewis.

The actress will be there cheering everyone on.

"We really are a very close group, so I'm really looking forward to that particular part of it,” she said.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on US network CBS Sunday, September 22.
