Danny Dyer discovers royal link in Who Do You Think You Are?
EastEnders actor Danny Dyer discovers he's related to royalty as researchers delve back into his family past for the new series of BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?.
Danny Dyer is related to royalty.
The 38-year-old actor delves back into his past for an upcoming episode of BBC genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are?. And while he might be most well known for his roles in gangster films and soap EastEnders, Danny's royal link was discovered as researchers looked through the Dyer family history - with a link to a "legendary figure" discovered, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper.
"People will be flabbergasted to discover the famous royal Danny is descended from," a show insider told the publication. "When he found out he could hardly believe it himself. It makes for some gripping television."
Danny previously said that he decided to sign up for the show to "freak a few people out". And it seems he will achieve his aim after the royal link was exposed.
The actor is just one of the stars to appear in the upcoming series of the hit BBC series.
Shakespearean actor Sir Ian McKellen, Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, comedian Greg Davies, Harry Potter actor Warwick Davis, Casualty actress Sunetra Sarker, BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth and TV presenter Liz Bonnin will also be delving back into their family's pasts.
Cheryl is another celebrity to appear on the next series, and will be seen discovering that her great, great, great grandfather was a war hero in the First World War.
The source added the upcoming series is the most exciting to date, adding: "With heartbreak and laughter, intrigue and surprise, they react to remarkable ancestors including freedom fighters and criminals, war heroes and bigamists."
Meanwhile, in a first for the show, Sunetra's search will see researchers travel to Bangladesh.
