Daryl spooked by attention

Daryl Hannah’s autism makes her shy away from attention.

The Kill Bill actress has spoken out about her childhood diagnosis of Autism and says she prefers it when she is not the centre of attention.

But that hasn't stopped the 52-year-old star from having a successful career on the big screen.

"I've never been comfortable being the centre of attention. It's always freaked me out," she confessed to People magazine.

Her disorder left her with "debilitating shyness" as a child, which even lead her to rock incessantly.

Daryl’s now managed to get a better hold on her autism, but still finds that her body rocks back and forth on occasions.

"I'm a grownup now. I've learned a couple of things that really would've made my life easier if I'd known them 20 years ago," she admitted.

Growing up in front of the camera, Daryl hid her condition from movie producers.

She also refused to partake in promotional interviews, and even turned down talk show appearances.

"Not because I was above it, but because I was terrified. I wasted so much time scared, self-conscious and insecure," she explained.

But the star is now a keen political activist and freely talks about her views on matters that she campaigns for.

She is an active environmentalist and has her own online video blog called DHLoveLife, in which she records and presents on sustainable solutions.

"Life is too short to stress the small things anymore," she concedes.
