David Gest quits Celebrity Big Brother
David Gest has become the latest casualty of Celebrity Big Brother, leaving the house "due to medical reasons".
David Gest has left the Celebrity Big Brother house "due to medical reasons", it has been revealed.
The 62-year-old producer made the decision on Monday (18Jan16), and his exit will be shown on the evening's programme.
David is the second housemate to voluntarily quit the show, after reality television star Jonathan Cheban left the house earlier this month (Jan16), complaining of claustrophobia.
"Due to medical reasons, David Gest has decided to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House," a Channel 5 spokesperson said in a statement. "His exit will appear in tonight’s show on Channel 5 at 9pm.”
David had been suffering from ill health throughout his time in the house. On several occasions, he was excluded from tasks and was seen recovering in Big Brother's spare room.
He was also involved in what was the programme's most headline grabbing incident, when housemates accidentally believed he had died.
The "comedy of errors" occurred when Angie Bowie told fellow housemate Tiffany Pollard "David's dead" - referring to her ex-husband David Bowie, who passed away earlier this month (10Jan16). Tiffany then went into hysterics and informed the rest of the housemates that David Gest had lost his life.
Darren Day was the one who rushed into the bedroom and pulled the covers from David to check if he was alive.
In the Diary Room later on, Darren told Big Brother: "I promise you on my children's lives, when I ran in and saw the shape and pulled the covers back over his head there was a moment, it might have been a split second or it might have been 30 seconds, when I thought David Gest had died."
Once David had been revealed as alive, Liza Minnelli's ex-husband attempted to diffuse what had become an extremely heated situation, telling his housemates that they shouldn't turn on Angie or Tiffany because of the unfortunate misunderstanding.
