Denise Richards: I've bonded with single Sheen

Denise Richards has spoken about her “close” relationship with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.

The actress admitted that Charlie’s divorce from Brooke Mueller helped her to enjoy a closer friendship with her former spouse. Denise had an acrimonious split from the actor in 2006 after four years and they have two daughters together. Charlie went on to wed Brooke and they had twin boys together, before their divorce was finalised in 2011.

“This is awful to say, but it's true. When his third marriage started to fall apart, he and I started to become friendly,” she told HuffPost Live. “In the last few years, things have gotten really great with us. We're very close and we're good friends, which is great because it's great for our kids.”

The extent of Denise’s bond with Charlie became evident last month when she was named the temporary legal guardian of Charlie and Brooke’s twin sons Bob and Max.

The 42-year-old beauty is caring for the four-year-old boys while their mother receives treatment for her drug addiction at the Betty Ford Clinic in California.

Denise has always realised that remaining civil with Charlie is the best thing for their daughters, eight-year-old Lola and Sam, nine.

“From day one, I've always wanted to keep the kids a priority and suck it up for them, but it takes two people to do that,” she explained. “He sees the benefit, too, that when we get along, it's good for the kids. It's not fair to them to be around parents who can't stand each other.”

Denise also has an adopted daughter, 23-month-old Eloise.

Although she now gets along well with Charlie, she has ruled out hopes of them rekindling a romantic relationship.

“Over the last couple of years we have become really good friends since the divorce and he is good with the children,” she said during an appearance on US TV show The View.

It was recently reported that Charlie now spends more time with Denise than whey they were married.

The 47-year-old actor is confident Denise’s home is the best place for his sons to be as he apparently has a “crazy work schedule”.
