Denise Richards reportedly had to battle to win her latest role due to her connection with Charlie Sheen.
The actress' career has allegedly been affected by her ex-husband, who was sacked from TV show Two and a Half Men last year after a public meltdown. ABC reportedly didn't want Denise to audition for their family drama Socio because of her bad-boy ex.
"ABC Family didn't want to even consider her for the role, and actually turned her down for an audition [because of Sheen]," a source told the New York Post. "Press like that can hurt an actress."
Denise filed for divorce from Charlie in 2005 after a three-year marriage. The couple have two children together and are now on good terms, although that hasn't always been the case.
Denise has previously admitted she struggled to understand the actor and worried about what to tell their children about his addictive personality.
Despite ABC's reservations, Denise managed to impress producers enough to offer her the part in the upcoming drama.
"[Denise] killed it," the insider revealed.
Insiders on the show gushed that Denise is perfect for the part. The actress plays a mother who struggles to keep up appearances in her town when her teen son returns from jail. Filming for Socio begins next month.
"Denise will bring great depth to the role of Danny's mother and is a wonderful addition to the cast. ABC Family is thrilled to have her as part of the drama pilot," an insider gushed.
