Dermot reveals culinary dreams

Dermot O'Leary wants to do more cooking

Dermot O'Leary has said he would love to have more time to cook.

The X Factor presenter harbours culinary dreams to be a chef after opening two fish restaurants in Poole and Brighton.

"I want to - I was kind of between TV and catering; it's an industry I worked in at university and I do want to get back into it eventually," he said.

"Just for me though, I don't want to be a professional chef. I would specialise with fish, as I have my fish restaurants. That's what I enjoy cooking now."

Dermot, whose album Dermot O'Leary Presents The Saturday Sessions in conjunction with his BBC Radio 2 show is out now, has been inspired by Jamie Oliver.

"Jamie has done an incredible job with this country," he said.

"When The Naked Chef first came out, what I loved about him was that with his recipes, you didn't have to worry about a measuring jug or scales. It was just about getting your hands dirty and getting back to your local butcher and suppliers, and using local produce."

The 37-year-old - who also wants to study for a Masters in history - recommends an Oriental-style seabass for patrons to his Fishy Fishy eateries.

"Our chef Loz is doing a seabass in an Oriental style with broth and some chilli to warm it up, which I'm really looking forward to tasting. I hope he does it now, because it he doesn't, I'm going to be really disappointed," he added.
