Diane Kruger's date disaster
Diane Kruger remembers how awkward her first date with Joshua Jackson was.
The German model-and-actress has been dating the former Dawson's Creek star for seven years. While they are happy together now, Diane revealed how disastrous their first one-on-one meeting was and how she ended up cancelling other plans after he guilt tripped her into having a meal.
"He thinks he asked me out on a date, which is not true - because I would have not agreed to that. I agreed to have drinks with him... He was at the bar, so I went downstairs," she told US chat show host Conan O'Brien. "I actually had plans with somebody else for dinner, so I know I didn't say yes to dinner... so we're sitting at the bar and it's nine o' clock and I'm ready to leave... and he says, 'Ok, let's go, we have dinner reservations. I felt really bad because he looked very eager and he put on a clean shirt and I said, 'Ok, fine.' "
When the couple arrived at the restaurant Diane found the atmosphere made her feel on edge. To add to that she suffered an embarrassing allergic reaction to the decorative plants in the dining area.
"He took me to this romantic place, which is really awkward when you think of it - now I'm in a romantic setting... It's a little intense," she cringed. "It was overgrown with these huge flowers, to which I had a huge allergic reaction to... I was sneezing and coughing, I couldn't say anything, my eyes were watery, and I thought, 'He's probably gonna say let's call it a day, let's go home...' and he talked about himself for an hour and a half non-stop because he was so embarrassed."
Joshua thought the date went well and even hoped for a peck on the lips once he had dropped her off. While she turned down his move she was pleasantly surprised the day after when receiving a thoughtful gift from her now long-term partner.
"Then he took me back to the hotel in his car, which was a piece of s**t... The door was eaten by his dog, it smelled so bad... It was not cute. And then he leans in for a kiss and I swear to God at the end, I was like, 'Should I slap him...?' It was very uncomfortable," she mused as the audience laughed.
"I ran away, practically, and I thought, 'This guy is never going to call me again or talk to me,' and then he sent flowers the next day with a box of Kleenex (tissues)... That was kind of cute."
