Cameron Diaz thinks it's "f**ked up" how competitive women are.

The actress stars in The Other Woman, in which her character teams up with her lover's wife to seek revenge when she finds out he's married.

She acknowledges how competitive females can be and believes it's simply because they're unsure.

"It's so f**ked up, the whole things is ridiculous, but it comes from not understanding ourselves," she explained to the British edition of OK! magazine.

"But that's life, that's the journey of life. Especially in a western society, we are not taught how to be connected to our inner selves to honour ourselves. And so we are working our entire lives trying to figure out who we are, what makes us happy, we live our lives looking at all these other things, going, 'Oh, if I pick that, that and that, then that will make me happy and I'll be a whole person.' You need to be going within yourself and asking yourself, 'What makes me happy, what do I do, how do I become whole?'"

In the past, 41-year-old Cameron has enjoyed romances with Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto.

She's currently single and admits that she hasn't always had the best judgement when it comes to relationships.

"I am human and I have gone down the wrong roads, and I have gone down some pretty good roads and I have taken the high and I have taken the low," she mused.

"It's life, that's what life is all about; it's about learning your lessons."
