Dockery ready for baby
Michelle Dockery says her Downton Abbey character is in a "very dark place" as the new season opens.
The 31-year-old plays Lady Mary Crawley in the award-winning British TV show. Her character gave birth to a son called George last season and Michelle is smitten with the one-year-old twins who play her baby in the show.
"It's hard not to be broody with those two. They are absolutely gorgeous," she told the latest issue of British magazine Grazia. "I've loved playing those scenes."
Michelle is currently dating Irish PR executive John Dineen, and the pair have been seen enjoying a series of romantic dates in Venice and New York City recently.
The new season of Downton Abbey opens six months after the death of Mary's husband Matthew Crawley.
Matthew - played by Dan Stevens - was killed in a car crash just hours after the birth of his son at the end of the last season.
Michelle has missed Dan while shooting the latest episodes of the period drama.
"It was really strange not having him around. I loved working with him," she said. "We all missed him because, obviously, you become really close friends."
In season four, Mary is surrounded by a series of eligible men as she mourns the loss of her husband.
"Mary begins in a very dark place... She has to move on at some point because she has the heir to Downton Abbey. She's being encouraged to meet people. There's a party and new characters coming into the show," she said. "Lord Gillingham, played by Tom Cullen, is a potential love interest. Evelyn Napier, who introduced Mary to the Turkish diplomat, returns with a character called Charles Blake who is also a love interest."
Michelle remains relaxed about filming love scenes, which are usually fairly tame in the show.
"The thing about Downton is that there is a romance about it and it's not that full-on," she smiled.
