Doctor regenerates in video games
Doctor Who and Amy Pond are being transported to a new dimension - by moving into video games for the first time.
Gamers will be able to swap Sonic The Hedgehog for sonic screwdrivers when the Time Lord appears on the Wii and DS consoles in the coming months.
The Doctor and Amy - played by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan - will be turned into computerised versions for the games Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth and Doctor Who: Return To Earth.
The BBC's commercial arm BBC Worldwide has worked with developer Asylum Entertainment and distributor Koch Media to create the adventures.
Fans will be able to become the Doctor and Amy in the family games which have been created together with show bosses. Plans also include launching a remote control unit and stylus shaped like a sonic screwdriver.
Simon Bailey, managing director of Asylum Entertainment, said: "We are incredibly excited to be collaborating with BBC Worldwide on these two new games.
"It is our firm belief that the franchise has massive potential on the Nintendo DS and Wii formats and it's an honour to be bringing Doctor Who video games to the show's huge fan base."
Evacuation Earth will be for the DS while Return To Earth is for the Wii, and both will launch in the UK, Australia and locations across Europe.
In October a live action stage version of the show will launch at major venues in nine UK cities.
