Doctor turns conductor at Who Proms

Matt Smith took to the conductor's podium at a special Doctor Who-themed BBC Proms concert.

The current Doctor - who is bowing out of the role at the end of the year - was joined in leading the orchestra by his TV sidekick Jenna-Louise Coleman, said The Sun.

Stars Matt and Jenna-Louise helmed the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the London Philharmonic Choir at the Royal Albert Hall.

They were also joined by classic Doctor Who baddies including Daleks, Cybermen, Silurians, Judoon, the Silence, Whispermen and a Weeping Angel.

Matt said: "One of the great joys of playing this extraordinary, legendary Time Lord is the support and knowledge and love and brilliance of the fans. You really make the show what it is."

Other surprise appearances at the concert included fifth Doctor Peter Davison and original sidekick Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan in 1963.

There were two Doctor Who Proms recorded that will be used as part of the programme's 50th anniversary specials to be shown in November.
