Doctor Who fans could attend a premiere of the new series of Doctor Who if they are lucky enough to win tickets in a ballot.

Whovians will be able to apply to be allocated tickets for the launch of the first episode at BFI in London, with new Time Lord Peter Capaldi in attendance.

According to the Radio Times, as well as a special screening of the first episode, there will be a panel discussion and Q and A including Peter, as well as yet-to-be confirmed members of the cast and production team on the evening of August 7.

Earlier in the day, The Thick Of It star Peter is due to attend a lunchtime event at St David's Hall in Cardiff, as the series is shot in the city.

Tickets for the premiere, which is part of the BFI's sci-fi series Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder, are £16 or £12 for concessions and can be applied for on the BFI website until 8.30pm on July 20, with all applicants finding out whether or not they have got tickets by July 24.

The first episode of the new series is called Deep Breath and will be aired on BBC One on August 23.

Scripts and footage from the episode recently appeared online in what was first thought to be a leak, but was later discovered to have been a mistake made by BBC Worldwide.
