Dominic Monaghan: I crashed Bean's car

Dominic Monaghan has recalled chasing girls and crashing Sean Bean's car while working on The Lord of the Rings.

The actor is best known for playing Meriadoc 'Merry' Brandybuck in the blockbuster fantasy movie series. Dominic has fond memories of shooting the franchise, and admits he and his co-star Billy Boyd were rather mischievous when they weren't on set in New Zealand.

"When we were making Lord of the Rings we were put on wet weather cover, which is where we're brought into work only if it rains," he explained to British newspaper The Telegraph. "However, it stayed hot and sunny so Billy and I didn't work once. Instead we spent the whole time making a ludicrous home video, getting drunk, chasing girls around New Zealand's South Island and we also crashed Sean Bean's car."

Dominic claimed Billy has kept the video footage of their antics. He has joked that he suspects his former co-star may be planning to make a fortune from the material.

"Billy still has the video footage but he says he doesn't know where it is, which sounds a little suspect to me," he quipped. "I think he's waiting for the right time to bring it out as a film in its own right."

Dominic went on to discuss his ideal holiday destinations. The 35-year-old actor - who also starred in hit TV show Lost - enjoys exploring remote islands and jungles.

He likes to escape from city life, but admits being in the wilderness can be dangerous.

"I always carry a snake stick, which is like a hooked stick that I use to wrangle the head of snake," he added. "I also take a couple of cameras."
