Douglas ‘lavishing Jones with love calls’

Michael Douglas is reportedly experiencing a “personal crisis” and is desperate to win Catherine Zeta-Jones back.

It was recently confirmed that the Hollywood stars are “taking time apart” to “evaluate” their 13-year marriage, following weeks of speculation. According to insiders, Michael reportedly blames himself for the breakdown of their relationship and is determined to win Catherine back.

“They have been through some hellish times before and he always thought they could fix things. Michael wanted them to go away as a family, to be far away from everything, but that didn’t happen. He is giving Catherine space, but he calls her every day to say he loves her,” a source told British magazine Grazia. “He is a multimillionaire actor, a Hollywood legend, but he doesn’t know what he can do to get her and the kids back. He is in a personal crisis, just hoping she will see her way to coming back.”

It has been claimed that Catherine is aware of 68-year-old Michael’s deep rooted feelings, but she doesn’t want to rush into anything. She is taking time to evaluate her own situation and determine what she wants to do next.

“Catherine knows Michael loves her, she knows he wants her back, but she feels she has to give herself a big space, see how she can cope on her own, with the kids, trying to work out what she wants,” said an insider.

The pair have been through some tough times in recent years, with Michael battling throat cancer and his son Cameron handed a lengthy jail sentence for possession of heroin and dealing in crystal meth. Catherine also had her fair share of personal issues, having regularly received treatment for bipolar II disorder. It has been claimed that Catherine was deeply upset with Michael’s claims that his cancer could have been caused by oral sex – comments made while his wife was in a treatment facility.

“There is such a thing as a final straw. Catherine and Michael have been through some hellish times, but the past three months have been worse than anything. It’s like all the strain and pressure of the past three years is finally coming out,” the source revealed. “To finally confront it and deal with it and then come out and realise your husband has said an awful thing about throat cancer and oral sex was awful. To say Catherine was upset about his revelation would be an understatement. They had several arguments over that comment.”

According to those close to the couple, 43-year-old Catherine was the one who suggested they take time out to assess their relationship.

“Michael knows he has messed up big time,” a friend said. “It was Catherine’s decision to separate. Things had got so fraught between them in the past few weeks, and the fact everyone seemed to know just magnified the pressure she felt under.”
