Dr Pixie: I always get recognised

Dr Pixie McKenna is back with a new series of Embarrassing Bodies

Embarrassing Bodies star Dr Pixie McKenna has revealed she's always being asked her medical opinion when out and about.

The Irish doctor, who addresses the public's unusual ailments alongside colleagues Christian Jessen and Dawn Harper on the Channel 4 series, meets fans of the show wherever she goes.

"You're fair game, especially to taxi drivers for some reason. Only last week a gentleman had a big lump on his head and said, 'Could you look at it when you get out the taxi?'," she said.

"It's part and parcel of the job. It's only difficult if it's embarrassing or if they start removing their clothing... but that only tends to happen late at night!"

The 41-year-old, who is expecting her first child, splits her time between Cork, where she runs the practice handed down to her by her father; London, where she has a clinic in Baker Street, and Cambridge, where she lives with her husband.

And the doctor said she enjoys the double life she has by having a home away from work.

"You have to be compassionate and caring to be a doctor but, by the same token, you couldn't take it outside the surgery door, either. I've got a 'doctor mode' and an off mode, and I've got two names as well so it's very easy to switch off," she explained.

Her husband isn't a doctor, and as he's not in the public eye, gets tasked with doing the grocery shopping.

"If I go to the supermarket, I insist on wearing sunglasses so he won't take me any more!" she added.

:: Embarrassing Bodies starts on Channel 4 on Monday, March 5
