Dream over for X Factor's Maloney

Christopher Maloney's X Factor dream ended on Saturday

The dream is over for finalist Christopher Maloney as he was voted out of the X Factor.

Sunday night will see Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur go head to head to win the competition.

Judge Tulisa Contostavlos punched the air in delight as Arthur sailed through to the final night.

The success of the two members of the boys category means Sunday evening's final will be between judge Nicole Scherzinger's final mentees.

The former Pussycat Doll dazzled in a floor-length red sequinned gown as she stood next to her two remaining mentees to wait for presenter Dermot O'Leary's announcement of who had made the final.

She hugged Douglas, 20, closely after his name was announced before she gripped Arthur's hand in a show of support before he was also announced.

Gary Barlow stood alongside mentee Maloney, 38, who graciously accepted his fate, saying he felt like he'd already won.

He said: "The critique that I've had and the negative press and the lies in the press and all that, I'm the third finalist and it feels fantastic."

The viewer's vote alone decided which two contestants would battle it out for the coveted title of winner, and who would go home. Fellow judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh watched from the sidelines, as all of their acts had been sent home in previous weeks.

"It's going to be a hell of a night" promised O'Leary.
