Drew Barrymore is determined not to let her two daughters become child stars.

The Never Been Kissed actress shares daughters Olive, three, and 23-month-old Frankie with estranged husband Will Kopelman, whom she split from in March (16).

While the American star was once one of Hollywood's most recognised child actresses, thanks to her breakout role as Gertie in 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Drew does not want her girls to follow in her footsteps.

"I'd never let them become child actors," she told U.S. Good Housekeeping magazine, adding she freely admits to being a strict parent. "They'll have a chastity belt, a tracker system, no cell phones and we'll live in the middle of nowhere..."

Though the 41-year-old has spent nearly her entire life in the spotlight, having landed her first commercial when she was 11 months old, her future was not always so bright.

Her late father, actor John Drew Barrymore, struggled with alcohol addiction and separated from her mother Jaid when she was nine years old. Following a turbulent youth which was marked by recurring drug and alcohol abuse and two stints in rehab, Drew eventually transitioned from child star to adult actress with a number of films, including romantic comedies such as The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates.

Accordingly, Drew deems herself an "overachiever parent", not because she is worried she'll repeat the patterns of her parents, but because she wants to instil a sense of consistency and protection in her children's lives.

"In reality, I'll just lead by example by being spirited, classy, consistent, philanthropic, hardworking, loyal to my friends and there any second they might need me," she said of raising her daughters.

The blonde beauty leans on her Charlie's Angels co-star Cameron Diaz for support and describes her as a loyal, fierce and fun friend to have.

"If you are in scary prison in the middle of nowhere, call Cameron," she jokes of the 43-year-old. "She'll get you out. If you're looking for the best dinner-cooking partner and watching-TV-on-the-couch friend, call her. If someone is in a medical situation, call her!"
