Drew Barrymore reveals Olive inspiration

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore says a book inspired her to pick the name Olive for her daughter.

The 37-year-old actress and husband Will Kopelman welcomed their first child into the world in September.

The 50 First Dates star has now opened up about the decision to give her tot the unusual name.

"I never would have guessed that would have been the name," she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

"But I was reading a book with my husband. I was three months pregnant and they said your baby is the size of an olive, and that was it. We never looked back."

Ellen quipped to that the child could have ended up with a far worse name.

Among the TV star's suggestions were Peanut, Grapefruit and Kidney Bean.

"It could have been," Drew laughed.

"It was a lot fruit and vegetables... Kidney's not such a fun name."

Coincidentally, Drew voiced a reindeer called Olive in animated 1999 TV special Olive the Other Reindeer.

She explained that once she and Will had decided, they wouldn't budge from their name of choice.

"[We were] shopping a few [names] as all people do who are so blessed to get to do this. And then once the light was shed, there was just no turning back," she explained.

Drew began dating art consultant Will in 2011 and they married in July 2012.
