Drew defends fat joke
Drew Barrymore says Ellen DeGeneres was joking when she called her “fat”.
The pregnant actress appeared on Ellen’s US chat show on Monday to clear the air about a joke the comedienne made backstage at the People’s Choice Awards.
According to Drew, she thought Ellen’s insult about her growing stomach was hilarious. But she admits her attempt to make light of it while presenting an award moments later backfired.
"I hadn't seen you in a while and instead of saying, ‘Oh, you're pregnant,' I just thought it would be funny to say, ‘God, you're fat," Ellen said.
"And the truth is your joke was super funny. The entire room was laughing," Drew responded.
"I'm so glad you can see us laughing though because I totally came home [that] night and my husband goes like how did it go? And I'm like, I told this joke but I don't know if it translated because we were laughing our butts off backstage…"
Drew went on to talk about how much she is enjoying her second pregnancy, weight gain and all.
The 38-year-old admitted she was bigger this time around than she was when carrying Olive, and even her doctor advised her to be careful.
"Oh god, I mean, I just eat everything I want which isn't healthy. I'm bigger this time than my first time. My doctor the other day was like, "Yeah, so I think maybe pull back a little bit,'" Drew revealed.
"I just want to enjoy the pasta right now… I'm in second trimester bliss!"
