Duchess of Cambridge 'wants royal Christmas'

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has reportedly vowed to attend the royal family's Christmas celebrations.

Catherine Middleton is expecting her first child with her husband Prince William. She is less than 12 weeks along and has suffered from chronic morning sickness, causing her to spend several days in hospital to be rehydrated.

There had been speculation she might miss the royal family's traditional gathering at their Sandringham Estate in Norfolk due to her ill health, but she is said to be determined to be involved.

"Kate doesn't want to disappoint the queen, nor does she want to skip on her duties," an insider told RadarOnline.

"She feels she is obliged to appear at the annual Christmas dinner... William has his concerns though that she won't be up to it, and told Kate she shouldn't worry if she feels too sick to attend and that no-one will judge her negatively."

William's brother Prince Harry is currently serving with the British Army in Afghanistan, so won't be home for the holidays. William apparently thinks this means his family will be happy with a low-key affair, so his wife should take the opportunity to rest.

"William believes the meal will be less formal than in previous years and his grandma [Queen Elizabeth II] wouldn't mind if Kate was excused," the source added. "But Kate isn't having it and is determined to be at the dinner, smiling as always."

William and Catherine confirmed the pregnancy after she went to hospital to be treated for severe morning sickness.

Their baby news has been marred after nurse Jacintha Saldanha was duped into thinking two Australian DJs were Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. They were able to get details about Catherine's condition during a phone call and shortly afterwards Jacintha committed suicide.

Catherine made a return to the public spotlight over the weekend, when she appeared at a sports awards event in London. She donned a green Alexander McQueen dress for the ceremony and seemed relaxed and glowing.
