Dunham’s Girls gets reality spin-off
A reality television version of Lena Dunham’s award-winning comedy show Girls is in development, it has been reported.
Girls has enjoyed huge success and is currently in its second season. Lena’s rise to fame was cemented last month when she picked up the best comedy TV actress Golden Globe Award for her turn as Hannah, while the show was named best TV comedy.
Now TV executives are looking to capitalise on the programme’s high achievement by introducing a reality adaptation starring Hailey Glassman.
“They’ve already cast Hailey because she sort of epitomises the mid-to-upper class 20-something trying to make it in New York City,” a source told Radar Online.
“ABC has really high goals for the show and each character will be loosely based off one of the characters in the scripted show.
“The premise of the series is to show the hardships of living in New York City and the hustle and creativity it takes to survive in the concrete jungle.
“This is going to be a group of extroverted girls who are well-educated, go to brunch on Sundays bust their asses during the week to make ends meet.”
Hailey, 25, rose to fame in the US after briefly dating reality TV star Jon Gosselin, the father of octuplets with his ex-wife Kate Gosselin.
Lena writes, stars in and directs Girls, which became an instant hit when it launched last year.
