E4 to show 'black Dynasty' Empire

Hit US show Empire is coming to the UK after E4 signed up the series about an ageing hip-hop mogul and his warring family.

The show, which featured guest appearances by stars including Naomi Campbell, Courtney Love, and Jennifer Hudson, regularly pulled in more than 10 million viewers and produced a number one soundtrack album.

D escribed by its creator as a "black Dynasty", the show revolves around the life of a gangster turned businessman who has to choose which of his three sons takes over as head of his company, Empire Entertainment.

The 12-part series is one of a raft of new shows announced by E4 including Tripped, which stars Inbetweeners actor Blake Harrison as "average-24-year-old" Danny who travels between parallel universes and Georgina Campbell who starred in the award-winning Murdered By My Boyfriend.

Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: " E4 has had a record-breaking run as the number one channel for young audiences. It makes sense to continue investing to back a new raft of unmissable shows."
