EastEnders' Charlie Slater to make brief return to Albert Square in new year
Derek Martin is to make a brief return to EastEnders next year, reprising his role as Charlie Slater.
The 82-year-old actor will make a guest appearance, closely following the return of on-screen daughter Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace).
It was announced earlier this week that Kat and Alfie Moon would be making a temporary appearance in Albert Square this Christmas, and it is expected that Charlie's return will stir up more ghosts from the family's past.
The former Eldorado actor said: "I'm so excited to be coming back into such a big and important storyline and I can't wait to get stuck in and be back with the family again."
Martin, who originally starred in EastEnders in 2000, has returned to the soap several times before - notably in 2011 and 2013.
His return is part of the storyline that sets the scene for a new BBC One drama which will see Kat and Alfie head to Ireland to search for answers to "some very big questions".
