Pal insists the Thinking Out Loud singer and girlfriend Cherry Seaborn have not exchanged vows.

Ed Sheeran has sparked a gossip frenzy about his relationship status after showing off what looks like wedding band in a photo posted online.

The 25-year-old, who has been dating girlfriend Cherry Seaborn for over a year, had devotees all excited when he was captured sporting a band on his wedding ring finger in a friend's Instagram photo.

A few eagle-eyed fans were quick to note the ring is one Sheeran has worn in the past, but never on that finger.

Ed is also wearing a T-shirt bearing the words 'British HOAX Skateboard Company' on it, suggesting he might just be messing with the media.

One fan asked musician Jovel Walker, who posted the sweet snap of Sheeran sitting with his daughter, if the singer had in fact tied the knot, prompting Jovel to respond, "No, hun".

Sheeran hasn't been trying to hide his feelings for Seaborn of late - the couple was spotted making out in the background of one of Taylor Swift's recent Instagram posts under a banner which read "Happy 1st Ed-iver-Cherry!"

Swift even poked fun at her singer/songwriter pal, captioning the snap: "Love actually is all around".

Sheeran, who has become famous for singing at fans' weddings, has not been very open about his life and career for most of this year after announcing he was taking a break from social media, so he could focus on a much-deserved break and songwriting for his third album, which he told fans is "the best thing I have made thus far".

Meanwhile, Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud hit recently topped a new Spotify list of the top first dance songs at U.S. weddings.
