Efron’s bodyguard: ‘Zac saved my life’

Zac Efron’s bodyguard reportedly speaks out.

The 26-year-old star and his security were stranded in downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of Sunday morning when their car ran out of gas and they became involved in a brawl with transients, according to TMZ.

The website now claims to have spoken with Zac’s bodyguard, who wishes to remain anonymous.

According to the outlet, he claims Zac “risked his life” to save his.

The man said the pair were on their way to a restaurant in nearby Little Tokyo when they were stranded at 12:30 a.m. at the bottom of an off-ramp near the 101 Freeway.

Earlier reports claimed a bottle was thrown out of the vehicle, landing near transients who confronted the bodyguard.

The man disputes this claim and says Zac actually used a vodka bottle to fend off the attack after he was stabbed with “a spear”, or shank-like object, in the face, stomach and chest.

He reportedly said Zac rushed to his defence, and in doing so saved his life.

Zac was also reportedly hit in the face during the fight.

"It was the hardest I've ever been hit in my life," the former Disney star told the cops, according to an earlier report.

It is unclear if substances were involved.

TMZ reports no arrests were made and police cited the event as “mutual combat”.

The outlet also claims the bodyguard has a criminal record for drugs and violence. No further details were provided.

The LAPD has not confirmed Zac's involvement.

The actor reportedly checked into rehab earlier in the year, although he has never confirmed what he was treated for.

He has remained tight-lipped about his health, dodging the question when asked about his battle with sobriety on America’s Today show earlier this month while promoting his latest release, feature-length comedy That Awkward Moment.

“I'm in the best place I've ever been. I've never been this happy before. I'm extraordinarily grateful for these guys and to be here promoting this movie. I don't know. Things are good. I don't know. Thank you for asking," he said.
