Elba: Thor was dream come true

Idris Elba loved his Thor role

Idris Elba says he fulfilled a childhood fantasy by landing a role in superhero movie Thor.

"It's a real dream come true for a big kid!" the Luther actor admitted at the film's Hollywood premiere.

Idris insisted he "learned a lot" from working under the direction of Kenneth Branagh on the new Marvel adventure.

"[It was] really good, he's a great director and a great actor," he told reporters.

"[Branagh] really knew how to bring alive this script, he had a great vision for it and I had a good time."

The film, which stars Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth in the title role, Natalie Portman and Sir Anthony Hopkins, is hotly tipped to do well at the US box office.

British filmmaker Kenneth Branagh says the film's stellar cast trusted him to bring out the best in their performances.

"Even though it's a big movie I hope they felt they weren't going to get swallowed up in a visual effects movie because I was interested in acting.

"In fact Natalie said to me she found more time to do the acting on this than independent movies where allegedly there's greater freedom but no time - we had more time," he insisted.
