Elijah Wood: Acting can wreck you
Elijah Wood is the happiest and most fulfilled he's ever been at 33.
The American star began acting at a young age but is best known for playing Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He has remained down to earth throughout his ever-growing fame and cites his mother Debra, who helped kick-start his career, as his mentor.
"I’d say my mom. I wouldn’t be the person that I am had it not been for the way that she raised me," he explained to esquire.co.uk. "This is a funny industry – it doesn’t necessarily breed the best elements of people and it can kind of ruin people, especially if you’re young and impressionable – and I think my mum was very cognizant of that."
And it seems Elijah has no regrets in life, feeling comfortable in his skin. When asked what the best age to be is, he insisted he wouldn't turn back time and is content keeping his feet in the present.
"My current age – I’m really happy. I mean, there are years throughout my life that I have loved: I loved turning 30; I loved my 29th year; I loved turning 21. There are these milestones but, in some ways, I’m probably the happiest I’ve been, the most fulfilled I’ve ever been. So 33. It’s f**king good. I’m really, really happy," he smiled.
Elijah isn't one to shy away from daring activities and recalled one incident when he felt as though he'd cheated death.
"I’ve done adrenaline-based things, like a gorge swing, which is kind of like a bungee jump," he added. "That was pretty scary because a free fall from anything feels like you’re dying – your body literally is saying, 'I’m not supposed to do this! I’m not supposed to fall! I’m going to die!'"
