Emily Blunt's surprising Cruise kiss

Emily Blunt has recalled "planting" a kiss on Tom Cruise during their new film Edge of Tomorrow.

The British actress appears alongside the Hollywood star in futuristic sci-fi flick Edge of Tomorrow, in which they play warriors fighting against aliens who have taken over earth. In one scene the pair lock lips - a moment Emily has revealed Tom didn't see coming.

"I mean, [it was] great. I don't think he was expecting it. I just sort of planted one on him," she laughed to BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw when asked what it was like to kiss the handsome star. "No, it was in the script but I think he hadn't read it properly. So I think he was a bit taken aback. He was like, 'Oh my god! This is what we're doing.' Well, Tom had read the scene but he hadn't really read the stage directions. There were some new pages."

Edge of Tomorrow marks one of Emily's biggest acting jobs to date, after having begun her career on British TV. Although she was initially star struck at the thought of working with Tom, she soon warmed to him and was able to relax.

"He never looks rubbish. He wakes up looking glorious. He's just a little up and comer," Emily grinned when asked what it was like to work with Tom. "I remember I went and met him and the director [Doug Liman] at Tom's house, I was definitely quite nervous. But I dunno, the more you work with someone the more it strips away and they just become your pal. We were down in the trenches with this movie so we kind of had to get along. He left his movie stardom at home."

As part of promoting the movie Tom and Emily are jetting to three different cities in one day, starting in London this morning before moving onto Paris and ending in New York City. The 51-year-old actor took the time to share how much he loved working alongside the brunette beauty.

"Ah, [Emily is] awesome. She is a wonderful woman and a great actress and so much fun," he gushed. "You know, we work very hard but it's also, I wouldn't want to have done this with anyone else because she's got such a great sense of humour - I like to have a good laugh as we're working hard, so we had an amazing time."
