Emily VanCamp's cold upbringing

Emily VanCamp used to enjoy being locked out of the house to play in the show as a child.

The 27-year-old actress was born and raised in Port Perry, Ontario, Canada, where the winters can be bitterly cold. She has three sisters and can vividly remember her mother's plan to acclimatise them to the chilly conditions.

"My mom would lock us out of the house," she laughed to the American edition of InStyle magazine. "Oh yeah. Are you kidding me? We come from tough stock. It gets freezing there but you'd just see little snowsuits running around. It was part of my childhood that shaped me."

Emily is best known for her role in US teen drama Revenge, in which she portrays Emily Thorne. It also stars her real life boyfriend Josh Bowman, although she prefers to remain tight-lipped about their romance.

"I have a wonderful love in my life," she explained, before discussing how important she thinks trust is in a relationship.

"Everything falls into play after that."

While the actress has always played love cards close to her chest, she has opened up about what she looks for in a man in the past.

Emily knows she can be very serious at times, so looks for someone to counteract that.

“It’s all about making me laugh,” she previously said. “I can be quite serious sometimes so laughing is key.

“I think it’s important to be with a guy who has a strong sense of integrity. That’s how I was raised, and that’s something I look for. And humility. I think people who lack humility are really annoying.”
