Emmerdale's epic challenge complete

James Thornton (John Barton) tweeted a picture of the team after the cycle

Emmerdale stars have been celebrating after they managed to cycle from the Dales to EastEnders in just over 20 hours.

James Thornton, Tom Lister, Rik Makarem and Kelvin Fletcher rode over 200 miles from the Emmerdale set in Leeds to Albert Square in Hertfordshire to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

James tweeted a picture of the team outside the Queen Vic and said: "We have only gone and bl**dy DONE IT. 224 miles in under 20.5 hours!!!! Get in! that was EPIC!"

Kelvin wrote: "Finished it!!!!!!!! Get in! What a journey. Some grim times and some great laughs. We smashed it!

"Amazing effort boys! We did it! Very proud! Something we'll remember for life!"

But he admitted the next day: "My legs are killing still!"

The soap stars, who play John Barton, Carl King, Nikhil Sharma and Andy Sugden, were joined by executive producer Steve November and professional cyclists Ben Swift and James Golding, himself a cancer survivor.

The cycle was arranged in memory of Emmerdale producer Gavin Blyth, who died last year after losing a battle with cancer.

They have so far raised just under £44,000 towards their target of £100,000. Donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/emmerdale-eastenderscharitycycle.

Working behind the scenes will yield significant rewards. If someone asks you to serve as their assistant, go ahead and accept. The pay will be excellent and there will be a lot of fringe benefits, too. Don't talk about a neighbour's private life in mixed company.More
