Eric Dane's wife wears the trousers in their relationship.

The Grey's Anatomy star has been married to actress Rebecca Gayheart since 2004 and they have daughters Billie, four, and two-year-old Georgia together.

In his latest TV project, The Last Ship, the 41-year-old plays Captain Tom Chandler. But when asked if he's the captain at home, he was quick to answer.

"No, my wife is definitely the one behind the steering wheel," he laughed to "She does, so to speak, wear the trousers."

The Last Ship tells the story of a crew battling for survival after a pandemic kills off most of the population on earth. It wasn't always easy filming so much of the show at sea.

"We got thrown about a bit while on set," he admitted. "I was sleeping in a room with two colleagues in bunk beds. The boat was moving so much that the colleague below me was thrown against my mattress. It was a terrible storm, but the situation was almost laughable. One of those moments where you had to be there!"

As a couple in the limelight, Rebecca and Eric have had to deal with the ups and downs of fame. However, they haven't passed on any words of wisdom to their little ones yet.

"Oh, they're only two and four years old, they're too little for any big pieces of advice," Eric said. "They're more at an age where you have to and want to keep them out of any trouble."

The Last Ship will hit screens in June and also stars Rhona Mitra and Adam Baldwin.
