Evan Rachel Wood slams Ben Affleck for calling gay kiss 'greatest acting challenge'
Evan Rachel Wood criticised Ben Affleck for remarks he made 20 years ago.
Evan Rachel Wood has slammed Ben Affleck for calling his Chasing Amy gay kiss the "greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face".
The Batman actor made the comments in 1997, according to the movie's director Kevin Smith, who recalled the anecdote at a screening of the romantic comedy at the Outfest Los Angeles film festival this week (beg17Jul17).
According to Smith, speaking about locking lips with actor Jason Lee on screen, Ben said: "A man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face". Once he had finished the scene, he apparently declared, "Now I'm a serious actor!"
Smith's revelation of the 20-year-old anecdote was picked up by various outlets including Paper magazine, who reported Ben's comments as though he had made them in an interview this year, and Westworld actress Evan is among those criticising the actor for the remarks.
Sharing a link to Paper magazine's story, Evan tweeted: "Try getting raped in a scene. Also, grow up Ben. Also, you think us ladies like kissing all the guys we kiss? Just cause its a ‘straight kiss’ doesn’t mean we enjoy it. Ahem.”
Evan has acted in rape scenes on more than one occasion during her career, including in 2015 movie Into The Forest and her hit TV show Westworld.
When one of Evan's friends responded to the tweet and stressed that Ben has grown up since making those comments two decades ago, she hit back by writing: "I’m sure he just thought it was a funny, but even jokes like that are damaging."
Meanwhile, Smith hit back at Paper magazine for the way they initially shared the story on Twitter, writing: "I love your mag, but this is misleading & unfair Tweet copy. He SAID it in 1997 when he was in his goofy 20's. No way he STILL feels that."
The outlet then added a line to the piece on their site, which read: "The original tweet of this article was phrased in a misleading way and did not accurately represent when Ben Affleck made the remarks Kevin Smith related last weekend at Outfest. It has since been removed."
