Fans snap up Madonna 'materials'

Pop idol Madonna has proved she's still The Material Girl.

Fans worldwide clamoured for items from Madonna's professional and personal life during a two-day Icons & Idols: Rock n' Roll auction in Beverly Hills that started on Friday.

Julien's Auctions said the gown and stole from her Material Girl video sold for 73,125, US dollars (£45,900) while the wedding dress the pop star wore when she married actor Sean Penn in 1985 brought in 81,250 US dollars (£50.900).

Her jacket from the film Desperately Seeking Susan sold for a record 252,000 US dollars (£158,622) and one earring worn in the film fetched 34,375 US dollars (£21,402).

Other highlights include the gown from the film Evita - which sold for 15,000 US dollars (£9,400) - and her A League of Their Own uniform - which sold for 31,250 US dollars (£19,500).
