Favourite steals X Factor show

Jahmene Douglas stole the show with a stripped down version of Robbie Williams's Angels

X Factor favourite Jahmene Douglas stole the show tonight with his stripped down version of Robbie Williams's Angels.

The former Asda worker stood out during the sixth live studio round with the four celebrity judges applauding him.

The contestants have 24 hours to wait before they find out who will progress but it is a safe bet that the Swindon boy is through. Backed by a gospel choir he left Louis Walsh delighted: "Every week you deliver...you've got this thing called star quality."

Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger agreed, saying: "You are going to the top and will be unstoppable."

The last girl in the contest, Ella Henderson, also stood out with her simplified version of Tinie Tempah's urban hit Written in the Stars.

"Wow," said former Take That star Gary Barlow, needing to say no more. Walsh added: "You are an old soul trapped in a young girl's body - you are the best girl we have had since Leona Lewis."

Boy band District 3 left Scherzinger close to tears with their version of Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven - but because she liked it. But Barlow was unconvinced saying there was "something" about the band that did not have "the edge".

Visibly nervous Christopher Maloney was hailed by his mentor Barlow as having "nailed" Elton John's I'm Still Standing.

The Liverpudlian won warm applause from the audience but Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos were less congratulatory.

Walsh told him: "You are not what the X Factor is about," and Tulisa added: "I am getting bored of telling you every week I don't like it."
