Fey lands doomsday comedy

Tina Fey has landed a rare straight to series order from NBC executives for her latest project, a single-camera doomsday comedy.

The comedic writer-and-actress’ Emmy-winning series ended in January.

Variety reports she’s now signed a rare 13-episode straight to series order for a single-camera comedy, about a woman who escapes a doomsday cult and starts over in New York City.

The Office actress Ellie Kemper will reportedly star in the new series.

Tina is executive producing through Universal TV with Robert Carlock and David Miner.

Tina and Robert, who previously worked together to produce 30 Rock, will also work as showrunners on the new programme.

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt confirmed the news in a statement Thursday.

“Tina and Robert, who cemented their partnership on 30 Rock, have created a new signature comedy for us that is audacious, emotional, and clever,” he said.

“While tapping into very relatable themes, there isn’t anything like this anywhere else on television. NBC has been their home for many years and we’re so happy that they’ve found another way to push the comedy envelope for us.”

The as yet untitled series is scheduled to premiere next fall.

Tina is meanwhile preparing for her return as co-host of the Golden Globe Awards early next year.

The actress will be back to emcee the show in 2014 and 2015 with comedienne Amy Poehler following their critically-acclaimed performances earlier this year.

The 2014 Golden Globes will take place on January 12 in Beverly Hills.
