Fiennes: Lange is extraordinary
Joseph Fiennes has revealed the chance to work with Jessica Lange was one of his key motivations for signing up to American Horror Story: Asylum.
The Shakespeare In Love actor plays Monsignor Timothy Howard in the TV show, about the staff who run a 1960s mental institution.
Joseph said of Jessica, who plays his potential love interest Sister Jude: "She's extraordinary, another main reason to be on the show. I watched the first season, loved it and jumped at the chance really because of Jessica. I've done most of my scenes with Jessica so it's a real privilege."
The star also said working with series creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk appealed to him.
"The main attraction was working with Ryan Murphy and his team and Brad and the writers. I've collaborated with Brad before, once on a film called Running With Scissors and another project which was a beautiful pilot called Pretty Handsome.
"So I kind of understood what I would be getting but I've never done horror before. So I read the first two episodes and when you want more you know it's a good thing, and I felt safe in the hands of Ryan and his team and it was the kind of character I couldn't turn down, the fantasy of Sister Jude was the way it was pitched."
Joseph added of his character: "He is, I think, a man of the cloth who can think a little outside the Vatican theological box."
