Fifty Shades of Grey may not have been high on the critics' list - but Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson could take home an MTV Movie Award.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens leads the pack with 11 MTV Movie Awards nominations.

It includes Movie of the Year, Best Female Performance, Best Villain, and Breakthrough Performance.

Deadpool scored eight nominations, including five for Ryan Reynolds.

Fifty Shades of Grey missed out on a nomination for movie of the year but Dakota Johnson scored a nod in the Breakthrough Performance category for her role as Christian Grey's student love interest Anastasia Steele.

And while Holywood actor Jamie Dornan missed out on a nomination in the Best Male Performance category he could still take home an award for Best Kiss.

The on-screen duo of Dornan and Johnson are up against -Amy Schumer & Bill Hader in Trainwreck, Leslie Mann & Chris Hemsworth in Vacation, Margot Robbie & Will Smith in Focus, Morena Baccarin & Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool and Rebel Wilson & Adam DeVine in Pitch Perfect 2.

It is in stark contrast to their latest accolades which saw the duo crowned worst screen combo at the Razzie Awards.

The tongue-in-cheek awards are a celebration of bad taste on the big screen, with Dakota Johnson named worst actress.

The Co Down actor also took home worst actor.

The adaptation of EL James' hit erotic novel swept the board at the awards, and was named worst screenplay at the Palace Theatre ceremony in Los Angeles.

It also tied with comic book remake Fantastic Four to be named worst picture of 2015.

The pair are back in action as they film the sequel Fifty Shades Darker in Vancouver where excitement is building among fans as pictures of filming have started to circulate.

However despite the critics - Fifty Shades took in more than half-a-billion dollars globally.

Its budget was just $40m making it Universal's most successful R-rated film globally and the UK's highest-grossing 18-rated movie.

The awards take place on April 10 outdoors at Warner Bros Studios as it celebrates its 25th annivesrary. The night will be hosted by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart.
