Fisher 'helped Hough on Halloween'
Isla Fisher allegedly urged Julianne Hough to remove her blackface make-up at a Halloween party, after realizing it would spark controversy.
The dancer-turned-actress recently sparked controversy by attending a party in Los Angeles wearing dark make-up and an orange jumpsuit. Julianne chose to dress up as Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren, an inmate from the popular prison drama Orange is the New Black. It has been claimed that her close pal Isla soon realised her costume would raise eyebrows, so urged Julianne to rethink her choice.
"[Isla told Julianne to] go to the bathroom and wipe her face off," a source told Us Weekly. "Isla hoped she got to Julianne before photos were taken."
However, a representative for Australian actress Isla has denied she intervened at the party.
Pictures of the 25-year-old blonde in costume soon circulated online and Julianne faced a fierce backlash.
Julianne quickly took to Twitter to apologise for the situation.
"I am a huge fan of the show 'Orange is the New Black,' actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way," she wrote. "I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize. (sic)"
Uzo, who plays Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren in the show, didn't comment on Julianne's actions. However, her co-star Laverne Cox did voice her opinions a few days later.
"I wasn't offended," she revealed. "I thought it was a shame that she is in this country, that she would wear blackface and not understand the historical implications of that. I don't think Julianne is making a specific informed choice to comment on blackness. I just think it's out of this ignorance. That's really sad."
