Flavia Cacace: Proposal a surprise

Flavia Cacace and Jimi Mistry got engaged at the end of last year

Flavia Cacace has told how Jimi Mistry's marriage proposal came as a complete surprise because the dancer was "engrossed" in Strictly.

East Is East and The Guru actor Jimi, 40, recently asked Flavia, 34, who he met on the 2010 series of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, to marry him.

"It came as a complete surprise when Jimi asked me because at the time I was so caught up in Strictly that I didn't have any time to be aware of what was going on in the real world," Flavia, who won last year's show with Louis Smith, said.

"When you're on the show you're totally engrossed in what you're doing... Jimi was such an amazing support during that whole time, I couldn't really have done it without him," she added.

The Italian-born dancer said the couple were taking their time with the wedding, adding: "There are no plans made for the wedding yet, we haven't sat down and brainstormed anything, and it probably won't be this year."

Flavia was previously engaged to Strictly's Vincent Simone and had a three-year romance with another of her partners on the show, ex-EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo.

The dancer is currently touring with professional partner Vincent in their Midnight Tango stage show.
