Garth hurt by ‘insensitive’ gift

Jennie Garth got over her divorce heartache with the help of her daughter.

The actress was mired in sadness after her 11-year marriage to the Twilight star ended last year.

When her daughter Luca, 15, gave her a book for Christmas called Sh*t Happens So Get Over It, Jennie was hurt at first.

"I thought, 'Are you kidding me? I can't believe she's so insensitive,'" she told People magazine.

But the Beverly Hills 90210 star, who is also mother to daughters Lola, 11, and Fiona, seven, admits it was just what she needed to move on and decide to focus on her career again.

Jennie now keeps the self-help book on her coffee table as a constant guard against self-pity.

The 41-year-old’s memoir Deep Thoughts From a Hollywood Blonde is being released in the US next week.

According to Jennie, fans shouldn’t expect anything too controversial.

"It's not a salacious tell-all," she insisted. "It's my journey and an introspective look at things I've experienced in my life."

Jennie is also making a comeback in the entertainment sphere. She and her old 90210 co-star Tori Spelling are starring in a new TV show called Mystery Girls, where they play two actresses who open a detective agency.

She is also appearing on a new reality show for HGTV called The Jennie Garth Project, where she and her family are seen renovating their Los Angeles home.

"It feels good to be busy and be creative," the actress said. "I feel like I'm fulfilling my destiny now in a way that I never have."
