George Clooney and his girlfriend Stacy Keibler spent American Independence Day apart, fuelling speculation that their relationship is in trouble.

The actor marked the American holiday at his villa in Lake Como Italy with friends while Stacy appeared to be thousands of miles away in California, according to Radar.

Stacy shared photographs of herself partying in Malibu on July 3, and 24 hours later posted a picture of the California coast.

The couple have not been pictured together since March 16, but sources insist they are still together.

“[Stacy] isn’t in Italy because she is working and shooting in New York and then doing a ton of press for her new show which launches on July 22,” a source told the website.

Stacy is hosting a new television show on the U.S. Lifetime channel called Supermarket Superstar.

The show will feature contestants pitching their food ideas to industry professionals, with the ultimate goal of getting their product onto supermarket shelves.

George, 51, began dating the 33-year-old former professional wrestler in the summer of 2011.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced which suggested the pair were on the rocks with their 18-year age gap playing a major factor.

George was said to want a “more low-key” girlfriend and found Stacy too interested in partying.

She was also said to be pressuring the actor for children.

But a source told The New York Post those rumours couldn’t be further from the truth and the couple were “still very much together”.
