George Clooney arrested during protest

George Clooney has been arrested in Washington D.C while leading a protest outside the Sudanese embassy.

The Hollywood star was objecting over the human rights crisis in Sudan when he was taken away by secret service agents.

The actor's publicist confirmed the arrest to TMZ.

"They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world," the star's publicist Stan Rosenfield told the US website.

Sources close to George also revealed that the actor "feels good about the arrest because it puts the spotlight on the crisis".

The star's detaining comes after his testimony in the US Senate on Wednesday about his dangerous mission to the volatile border region between Sudan and South Sudan last week. He met with US Secretary Hillary Clinton and American President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
