The movie star is upset by a fabricated exclusive, in which he talks about his marriage.

George Clooney has attacked editors at Hello! Magazine for publishing an interview with him he insists he never gave.

The 54-year-old released a statement on Friday (01Apr16) insisting quotes attributed to him in a new article are false.

He's particularly upset about an extract in which he reportedly chats about his wife, human rights attorney Amal.

"Hello Magazine has printed an 'EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW' with me that has been widely picked up and reprinted," Clooney raged in his statement to Entertainment Tonight. "Outlets like Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, The Sun, and The Evening Standard have all printed my exclusive interview and credited Hello Magazine.

"The problem is that I have not given an interview to Hello Magazine and the quotes attributed to me are not accurate.

"In my experience, being misquoted is not unusual, but to have an 'exclusive interview' completely fabricated is something new... and a very disturbing trend."

In the Hello! article, Clooney is quoted as saying he and his wife are never apart for a week, and that they "stay in touch via social media".

Editors at Hello! have since responded to Clooney's statement, insisting they are "very dismayed" to learn the interview they purchased "in good faith" from independent agent Famous is "not authentic".

They continue: "Purchase was on the unquestionable understanding that the interview and material were correct and accurate in all respects.

"In the meantime, the HELLO! Group can only express its deepest respect for both Mr Clooney and his wife, Amal, and its sincere commitment to respectable and accurate journalism."

Clooney has yet to comment on the response.

He rarely speaks about his wife, but did comment about her trip to the Maldives last year (15) during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, confessing he was glad Amal was heading home after one of her colleagues was attacked as she was attempting to arrange a meeting with the country's incarcerated former leader Mohamed Nasheed.

"It's a tricky place to be right now," her worried husband said. "Her co-counsel was just stabbed in the head a few days ago... I'm very concerned with her being there, quite honestly."

George also gushed about Amal during a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight, stating, "She's an amazing human being, and she's caring. And she also happens to be one of the smartest people I've ever met. And she's got a great sense of humour."
