George Clooney has joked that he is "used to losing" out on awards.

The Hollywood star has been recognised during awards season this year for his leading role in The Descendants. He was nominated for a best actor prize at the BAFTAs on Sunday night, but failed to take home the trophy.

George admitted that he doesn't have a good track record at the prestigious British movie ceremony.

"I was here once and lost four in one night, so I'm used to losing," Clooney joked to ET on the red carpet before the event in London. "I'm good at it now."

Before the best actor accolade was handed out, George managed to correctly predict the winner. He was confident that Jean Dujardin would triumph for his performance in silent movie The Artist. The star was also full of praise for fellow nominee Gary Oldman's turn in the drama Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

"I think tonight's going to be either Jean or Gary," George replied when asked who he thought would win. "Because those two films have been nominated like 12 times or something, so that tells you there's a lot of love for those two films here."

The Artist was the big winner at this year's BAFTAs.

The French homage to silent movies also won Best Film, Best Director, Original Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography and Costume Design.

The Artist has been victorious throughout the awards season and is expected to be a big hit at the Oscars on February 26.
