Geri hails Margaret Thatcher as First Lady of Girl Power

Geri Halliwell has tweeted about Margaret Thatcher's death

Geri Halliwell was one of the first celebrities to pay tribute to Baroness Thatcher following the news of her death.

The Spice Girl took to Twitter to pay her respects to the first and only female British Prime Minister.

Geri tweeted: "Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power, Margaret Thatcher, a green grocer's daughter who taught me any thing is possible."

One Direction's Harry Styles surprised many by showing an interest in politics when the 19-year-old tweeted: "RIP Baroness Thatcher x."

Harry sparked off a string of comments from teenage 1D fans, some of whom were a little confused. One replied: "Oh. I now know who she is. Aw, that's so sweet of you."

Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins also paid tribute to the late politician, writing: "RIP Baroness Thatcher. I will always fondly remember the afternoon tea & chat at your home #GirlPower Say what you like but she was a wonderful supporter of our military in her later years and for that reason I have massive respect."

American actress Elizabeth Banks tweeted: "RIP Margaret Thatcher. A role model for women & young girls across the world. Also, my high school Halloween costume."

Joan Collins wrote: "Very sad Baroness Thatcher has died she was a great Prime Minister. She never gave up and never gave in, more than you can say for some."

Piers Morgan tweeted: "Brave, divisive, formidable, tough, stubborn, dominant & domineering, Margaret Thatcher bestrode the world like a political colossus. RIP."

While business mogul Lord Sugar wrote: "Margaret Thatcher died today. A great lady she changed the face of British politics, created opportunity for anyone to succeed in the UK. RIP Lady Thatcher in the 80's kicked started the entrepreneurial revolution that allowed chirpy chappies to succeed and not just the elite."
