Gervais: Getting fit is a killer
Ricky Gervais has revealed that his healthy lifestyle is putting a strain on life.
The Derek star admitted he gets disheartened by the vicious circle of having to work out, only to get tempted by food and alcohol, as he spoke to The Daily Show's host Jon Stewart.
"I worked out and I lost a little bit of weight but I'm basically a fat guy at heart and it's killing me. Trying to keep fit is literally killing me," he said.
"I don't want to give anything up so I still eat pizza and I get drunk every night and then I have to go for a run in the morning, like Rocky, and it kills me."
The 52-year-old funnyman continued: " I try and beat the system. And now I'm working out more and more - my shoulder's gone, my knees are gone... I wake up in the morning and think, 'I didn't die' so I have to go through it again.
"Then I eat and I work out. While I'm working out, I'm thinking, 'Beer, pizza, beer' like rewards."
Ricky also admitted he wouldn't want to die in a comedic way.
"I don't have a plan. I've got a list of things I don't want to do - I don't want to die being squashed by a safe or something. I don't want a comedy death, (like) running out of a tunnel into a train or (dying) sat on a spike," he said.
"Everyone would be laughing at the funeral. I want it to be a cool death."
The Daily Show will air on Comedy Central Extra on June 5 at 12.45am.
