Giamatti for new detective show

Paul Giamatti is set to appear in a new detective TV series.

The Sideways actor will play the title character in a pilot of comedy drama Hoke, according to TV Line.

Hoke will see Emmy award winner Paul play a mentally unstable homicide detective called Hoke Mosely who is working in Miami around 1985.

It will be based on Charles Willeford's series of novels Sideswipe, New Hope For The Dead and The Way We Die Now.

Production on the hour-long pilot episode is set to begin later this year in Miami.

It was recently announced that Paul will be joining the cast of Downton Abbey for series four of the drama, which will air later this year.

He is currently voicing a part for the forthcoming animated film of The Little Prince, alongside James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Jeff Bridges and Benicio Del Toro.
