Aden Gillett has joined the cast of Holby City as Edward Campbell.
The 54-year-old stage and screen star, best known for starring in BBC series The House Of Eliott, will play the newest consultant anaesthetist joining the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) as a locum - and the roguish ex-husband of surgeon Serena Campbell (Catherine Russell) on the BBC One medical drama.
"I'm looking forward to joining the cast of Holby," he said.
The actor, who has also appeared in The Borrowers and Silk, admitted he is looking forward to reuniting with former co-stars Catherine, Guy Henry (Henrik Hanssen) and Hugh Quarshie (Ric Griffin), adding: "I've worked with Catherine, Guy and Hugh before and it will be a pleasure to work with them again."
TV bosses teased that Edward's arrival will keep Serena on her toes, as she is not happy about her ex taking a post at the hospital. Philandering Edward is used to charming his way through difficult situations and will work hard to win her over.
Oliver Kent, the show's executive producer, said: "We are excited to welcome Aden to the cast. His character will certainly stir things up for the usually unflappable Serena."
Edward will make his screen debut in the summer.
