Green and Aguilera: We needed a break

Cee Lo Green

The Voice mentors Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera wanted to focus on their own lives temporarily.

Cee Lo and Christina will be replaced by Usher and Shakira as panelists on TV talent show The Voice's upcoming fourth season. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine are returning to their posts on the programme.

The singer's needed a break from The Voice.

"I had a couple of other things that I wanted to be able to do," Cee Lo told Extra.

Cee Lo will be releasing his new album Cee Lo Green… Is Everybody's Brother in 2013 and Christina's new record Lotus hits shelves this month.

Christina appreciates the network allowing them to concentrate on their own careers momentarily.

"The thing is that we're all artists at heart. We all know what it is to make records, be passionate," she explained.

"That's why we all can do what we do as good coaches for the show, and we can only be as good as what we put out.

"As artists... this isn't us being insistent. This is NBC being gracious and allowing us to be complete, total artists."

Both Cee Lo and Christina will return for The Voice's fifth season.
